 Passion

Passion is a product of overflowing emotion due to uncontrollable desire for love. With passion, our life becomes even more exciting because it gives us an exciting adventure and outburst of emotions too. Each of us has our own passion in life, and in order to understand the true meaning of passion, we must first be able to realize the reason for it and the people to whom we are dedicating this passion for. To understand passion even more, we must first examine examples of different forms of passion.

Before we become passionate to others, we must first instil the true meaning of passion within ourselves because some of the most passionate moments in our lives come from loving who we are as human beings. One form of passion within oneself is applying habits in our daily lives. A habit is a learned behaviour that a person repeats so often that he begins to do it even without thinking of it. More often than not, we become passionate about our habits because it shows one way of taking good care of ourselves. We are all examples of this passion because we all apply habits every day. It may be in a simple form like brushing your teeth or combing your hair; nevertheless, we do it everyday even without thinking about it.

Participating in various things that we love to do can also be a form of passion for most people. Our talents and hobbies are things that we may be passionate about for they give an image and identity to people considering who we really are as an individual. It gives people an idea that these are the things that we can do best, because there’s an ample amount of love that comes along with it. Besides, all of us would love to do something that we can be known for, and something that people could appreciate us beyond even more. One good example of this passion is the adorable girl who rose to superstar status and our very own Filipino pride, Maria Aragon. She became popular when she made a cover of the song “Born this way” by Lady Gaga and posted it on Youtube. She gained millions of viewers and she was invited to guests in the television shows of famous Hollywood stars, Oprah and Ellen Degeneres.

Some people opt to be passionate towards society and mankind. An act of generosity like donating old yet useful things or materials to the indigenous, and an act of helpfulness like being a volunteer during medical or dental missions are different ways of being passionate towards society and mankind. There is this subtle feeling of relief whenever we find ourselves being capable of extending help to other people, which is why others continue to be passionate in helping those people who needs extra care and support. One good example of this is the famous Hollywood actress and the wife of actor Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie. She is not only known as a movie actress, but she is also a global citizen and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Goodwill Ambassador. Her first involvement as an ambassador was in the small African country, Sierra Leone. She was named as the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador in 2001.

Lastly, passion towards God and our respective religion is another form of passion whereby we devote ourselves through active prayers and service to the church. We must be strong enough to stand up for our own spiritual beliefs, values, principles and perceptions. It doesn’t matter what kind of religion we have, for as long as we strongly believe in our faith, then we can be passionate about it.

There are a lot of reasons behind everything that we are passionate about. We may or may not be aware of it sometimes. One of these is our strong feelings or emotions. We feel a sense of contentment because we know by ourselves that we have fulfilled and achieved something that we really love to be involved in. We feel an extraordinary happiness because we have guaranteed ourselves that we did something worthy of our hard work, sacrifices, and perspiration. Lastly, a powerful emotion of love is felt whenever we do things that we are passionate about, simply because everything we are passionate about entails lots of love in it. Love is equal to passion; therefore, we can never be passionate about something that we don’t really love.

Without an inspiration, our passion will only be useless and meaningless. Most of the time, we dedicate our passion for those who have continuously inspired us throughout our lives. They have served as a motivation for us to pursue and be persistent in something that we can truly be passionate about. They have encouraged us to show the best of our capabilities by applying it in our passion. We offer our lifelong passion to God, our family, our relatives, our friends, and those who choose to remain and continue being a part of our journey in life. One example of this passion about religion is Confucius. Confucius is a philosopher who is known for his principles regarding modesty, respect, moral behavior, honesty, and sincerity. He cultivated these aspects and related it to his religion. In that way, he did not only help the people who were surrounding him, but the whole empire that he was a part of.

There are some effects that passion has on us, and one of these is to feel inspired. We continuously do what we are passionate about because it encourages us to aim high and reach for our goals, despite the flaws and shortcomings that we have. We are inspired to do and give beyond the best of our abilities because we tend to appreciate and embrace the feeling of what our passion gives us. Passion is not just a hidden treasure that we try to discover within ourselves; it is a gift from God that we need to cherish and use properly. Now that we already know the reason and people to whom we are dedicating this passion, we must remember to purposely search and experiment something that we can be passionate of. Remember, without passion, our identities as wholesome individuals will forever remain incomplete. To quote Denis Diderot’s statement about passion, “only passions, great passions, can elevate the soul to great things.” I have come to realized that our passions portray a huge role in our lives
